Opened late 2019, Puku Ridge is the latest luxury lodge designed by Luxury Frontiers. The lodge was transformed to ensure it has minimal impact on the surrounding environment while still offering a luxury safari experience. The designers fused natural elements with modern luxury and integrated traditional local art to create a modern lodge that blends perfectly into the surroundings. Located in Luangwa National Park, the lodge offers ultimate wildlife experiences. After Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge in Botswana, Puku Ridge is the second lodge by Luxury Frontiers that features a Bamboo X-treme® deck, suspended above the ground. Additionally, Bamboo UltraDensity® flooring is installed in the rooms.
The newly transformed Puku Ridge, located in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, was designed to offer seasoned bush lovers an intimate bush experience, whilst providing lavish comfort for first-time visitors. Luxury Frontiers’ innovative and eco-friendly solutions were abundant to ensure that the original lodge and the greater environment were honoured, whilst creating a unique and luxurious experience for the guests of Puku Ridge. In keeping with their design philosophy of durability with sustainability, Luxury Frontiers specified MOSO Bamboo UltraDensity flooring for the interior floors, and MOSO Bamboo X-treme for the exterior decking of the lodge and accommodation units.
The generous stepped deck surrounding each unit follows the site’s unique contours, providing un-obstructed views. The partly covered main deck connects the private outdoor shower to the plunge pool, which is positioned at the deck’s edge to create the illusion of swimming in the flood plains. To maximise the use of eco-sensitive solutions (one of the key values of the Luxury Frontiers design process) in erecting the observation towers, excessive laying of concrete was avoided by constructing a lightweight timber structure on Zambian timber columns, using carbon neutral MOSO engineered bamboo products for both the external and internal flooring of the units.
MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® is a thermo-treated outdoor product that is harder and more stable than comparable tropical hardwood timber. Although its main application is for decking it is also available in beams, cladding and fencing profiles. MOSO® Bamboo X-treme® is also fully certified to applicable European standards and outperforms commonly used tropical timbers in terms of stability, hardness, durability, sustainability and even fire resistance!
MOSO® Bamboo UltraDensity® is probably the hardest natural “timber” flooring product available. It was developed for high traffic, high impact public areas, and is installed in train station in Europe with annual foot traffic of 200 million. It is fully tested and certified in Europe and exceeds all applicable European codes for timber flooring. MOSO® Bamboo UltraDensity® displays incredible stability and durability, making it very well suited to installation in projects with challenging climatic conditions.
