MOSO® is proud to have contributed significantly to the green look-and-feel with...
Zoku Hotel in Amsterdam uses the space they have to their advantage, as they are sustainability driven. MOSO® Bamboo Flooring, Panels and Veneer can be found in this loft, providing that natural ambiance when combined with the perfectly selected light tones.
Zoku is a hotel concept for international travellers staying in the city for a long time. These global nomads take root quickly and behave like locals, which calls for a new typology of the hotel. At Zoku, the lobby has made way for a public space on the top floor, with an outdoor area and a greenhouse. Here you can collect, cook, eat, work and chill ingredients for a meal. Instead of regular hotel rooms, Zoku has 133 ingeniously arranged lofts, where the bed can be hidden from sight and the room is equipped, not only with a bathroom, but also with a handy kitchen. The first location has opened in the heart of Amsterdam. Mulder Blue is the architect of the building. Concrete architects designed the interior.
MOSO® Bamboo products are made from giant bamboo stems. After harvesting, the stems are sawn lengthwise into strips. These strips are naturally pale yellow, but after steaming they become a caramel colour. After drying, the material is processed into the final product. Bamboo Supreme Side Pressed Caramel was used for the floor and Bamboo Panels Side Pressed Caramel from MOSO® were used for the stairs and table top. In the Side Pressed version, the strips are placed vertically next to each other and glued together. This guarantees stability and precision. The latter is particularly important when using the material in an extendable staircase. This variant has a fine line pattern in which the bamboo knots are still subtly visible. The bamboo is also applied in the doors of manufacturer REINÆRDT, which are used throughout the hotel.
Bamboo moves underground by means of roots that resemble the stems of the plant in terms of construction. The fast-rooting and growing bamboo is the ideal habitat for the global nomads of Zoku. Also in a philosophical sense; the French philosopher Nicolas Bourriaud compares contemporary world citizens with fast-rooting plants. Instead of a deep-rooted link with one specific location, we can settle anywhere and be temporarily at home.
Worldwide we have many inspirational stories where bamboo was taken to another level and we developed innovation solutions for customers. Be inspired by them here:
“A project that makes use of MOSO® Bamboo Products offers several advantages compared to wood and other alternative materials, plus MOSO® bamboo will last for years to come.”
