Because of its location at the Northern shore of Taihu lake with the nearby road bridge, the Wuxi Grand Theatre brings the famous Sydney Opera House to mind. The 50 meters high theatre building with its eight gigantic wing-like roofs is designed with a unique artistic and ecological concept. Sustainable bamboo, a both modern and traditional Chinese building material, could be applied on the Main Opera Atrium due to a new production method. The bamboo was shaped according to the acoustic needs and architectural image of the opera house.
